I was recruited as Vice President of Sales for this financial services and investment advisory firm to grow the business via new carriers, products and agents by the two owner/operators.
I was promoted to President in 2009. With more than 20 direct reports, I provided vision and strategy for expanding the business, wrote and executed a business plan, recruited and trained new carriers and agents, and expanded the product portfolio. I also identified high growth, high profit market segments and built internal capability and infrastructure to support them.
I was brought in to this new start up by Alex Sandel one of the co-founders of Cal-Abco and Packard Bell Computers/Electronics.. I served as the President/CEO of DVD.com. My challenge was to build a new business, as a provider of DVD’s and movies and capitalize on the market trend of consumers ordering DVDs and movies internationally.
With full P&L responsibility, I developed and implemented a strategic business plan, and recruited and led an executive management and sales team, eventually numbering 25. We built a catalog of DVDs, and created the DVD.com brand and website, as well as set up a distribution and fulfillment facility with a team of distribution logistic specialists, IT managers and international sales and marketing professionals.

After taking six months to develop my next idea and venture, I figured out that the computer industry had room for a new concept in back-up devices. I developed and founded Drive Storage Technology Corporation (DST).
The DST Pocket Mirror Drive was my new creation. I set up our corporate Headquarters and production facility in an industrial park in Inglewood California. I was the President/CEO of DST.
IThis revolutionary new pocket size hard drive enclosed in a small plastic case with the propriety DST Data Mirror Software would make a complete mirror image of the entire hard drive in the computer. The sector by sector copy process would allow the mirror drive to be an exact copy of the hard drive currently in your computer. The mirror process would include all applications and secure data, as well. My software allowed for incremental daily, weekly or as schedule auto updates, and could restore your entire hard drive in hours if your hard drive failed.
I personally interviewed and hired the best marketing, sales and operational team to launch my new venture. In 2000 the DST Pocket Mirror Drive was launched and became an instant success. The product was heavily marketed to the specialty mail order resellers and appeared in millions of catalogues.
The DST product line offered 30 products in different configurations and sizes and was sold domestically and internationally by over 3000 resellers, retail outlets and developed into a product that was highly reviewed by important industry publications such as: Mobile Computing Magazine, Laptop Magazine and Popular Science Magazine. The DST Pocket mirror Drive actually made the cover of Mobile Computing Magazine and was featured as one of the 10 best products of the year in 2000.
The DST Pocket Mirror Drive was a highly profitable product line that started out offering 40% margins until a few industry competitors reverse engineered the technology and numerous drive manufacturers started offering a similar product at greatly reduced selling prices.
In 2005 I sold the company to Western Digital Corporation.

In my mid 20’s I was a superstar salesperson in the Retail Audio business in New York. With the support of Harry Elias, of US JVC Corporation and Bernie Mitchel, of US Pioneer Electronics, I was able to start and open 3 stereo stores in Upstate New York in the late 70’s, named Stereo Magic.
By the mid 80’s we had more than 50 product lines, selling Audio, TV’s, Video and Car Stereos with very elaborate installation facilities in a number of our retail stores. “Dynamite David’s Stereo Magic” owned the upstate region of New York for almost 10 years. We were the most prominent, heavily advertised, on radio and in print, audio retailer, now with 6 retail stores covering New York State from 45 minutes north of Manhattan to New Jersey and past Kingston New York.
My retail stores did more than 10 million dollars in annual sales. Unfortunately, in 1989 came a drastic decline in gross margins, forcing me to close the business and relocate to California.
